About Us

The mission of the Sunflower County Library System is to provide resources to meet the community’s informational needs.  These resources include services and programs to stimulate ideas, promote education, and enhance personal development of our community’s citizens through access to printed books, audiobooks, eBooks, and the internet. We have special collections in the following areas:  small business development, job and career resources, home repair and maintenance, consumer health, African-American history and popular reading, Mississippi authors, Sunflower County history, genealogy, large print resources, fiction for adults and teens, and children’s literature.  All five library branches host exhibits and programs to encourage lifelong learning. Our branch libraries feature children’s book collections for recreational reading and homework support.  Each summer, the branches host summer reading programs for school age children, as well as, preschool story times throughout the year.

Additionally, we provide access to many digital resources through the statewide Mississippi Alliance for Gaining New Opportunities Through Library Information Access (MAGNOLIA) database, Hoopla eBooks and audiobooks, WorldBook Encyclopedia Online, HeritageQuest, and Learning Express .

The Sunflower County Library System is funded by the Sunflower County Board of Supervisors.  It is governed by a five member Board of Trustees and administered by a Director with a master’s degrees in library science and a staff of library assistants.
